Call for Participants for Yoni ki Baat 2011

Yoni Ki Baat* is a growing collection of authentic, bold, vivid, tender, powerful and poignant stories told by South Asian** women. Seattle’s Yoni Ki Baat has taken a creative life of its own in a unique space of sharing and community through sourcing and presenting true stories from local South Asian women. Acknowledging female sexuality as an essential aspect of identity, experience and expression, this transformative space encourages South Asian women to express their challenges, hopes, dreams, breakdowns, breakthroughs, and aspirations for change on behalf of their bodies.

Write to YKBSeattle@tasverer.org, by deadline October 29th, 2010

Please include (a) a short paragraph about yourself and why you may be interested in participating in Yoni ki Baat, and (b) a few sentences on a story-idea / topic you have in mind.

Yoni Ki Baat 2011 will be directed by Shahana Dattagupta, and produced by Shaline Samy. It will be presented at AAINA (March 25, 26, 27), an annual South Asian Women’s Focus produced by Tasveer, with sponsorship from the Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas and SAAM.

NOTES
* Translated as “Talks of the Vagina,” Yoni Ki Baat was inspired by Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues. Yoni Ki Baat was originally started by South Asian Sisters, a progressive collective of South Asian women, who have been organizing an annual Yoni Ki Baat in the San Francisco area, and continue to kindly let us present their scripts.

** South Asia (in the AAINA festival) comprises of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
