Arab American Community Coalition
Shortly after the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, a number of dedicated community members founded the Arab American Community Coalition (AACC). Initially, the AACC was formed to combat the rampant hate crimes and malicious harassment that were occurring against Arab and Muslim Americans. As a result, the AACC set up a 24-hour Arab hotline with English and Arabic speakers and began to educate the community.
Arab Film Distribution
When AFD began "spreading the word" about Arab Cinema, we had only five films in our library - the titles we acquired after the first ever Arab Film Festival at the 1990 Goodwill Arts Games in Seattle. The charm of these films seduced the audience and highlighted a profound enthusiasm for Arab Cinema.

While the JACL’s founding mission was focused on protecting the civil rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry, today we are committed to protecting the rights of all segments of the Asian Pacific American community.

This change was first prompted in the early 1980’s when a young Chinese American man was murdered in Detroit when he was mistakenly identified as Japanese. The murder of Vincent Chin brought about the recognition by the JACL of the need for vigilance to maintain the rights of all Asian Americans. It became apparent that those who would do harm to Japanese Americans did not discriminate in their hatred and bigotry against Asians or other people of color.
KBCS 91.3 FM
