SUMMARY:Pride Month: Tasveer Filmmaker Q&A- " I AM" Film by Sonali Gulati
DESCRIPTION:Tasveer Filmmaker Q&A: ” I AM” Film by Sonali Gulati\nThis Pride month join us for an exclusive Virtual Meet and Greet with Indian Queer Filmmaker\, Sonali Gulati. Her film\, “I Am” won the hearts of many at Tasveer and we are excited to host this session with her. \nI Am chronicles the journey of an Indian lesbian filmmaker who returns to Delhi\, eleven years later\, to re-open what was once home\, and finally confronts the loss of her mother whom she never came out to. As she meets and speaks to parents of other gay and lesbian Indians\, she pieces together the fabric of what family truly means\, in a landscape where being gay was until recently a criminal and punishable offense. \nThe film will be made available on Tasveer TV for Free Screening all month long from June 1- June 31! \nRegister: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tasveer-filmmaker-qa-i-am-film-by-sonali-gulati-tickets-157266483285

SUMMARY:Inter-Generational Dialogue with Queer South Asian women
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 29\, 2021\n 17:30 19:30 \nTasveer (map)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInter-Generational Dialogue with Queer South Asian women \nWith filmmakers Sonali Gulati\, and Fawzia Mirza. We will screen films ‘Sum Total’ of Sonali Gulati and ‘I Know Her’ of Fawzia Mirza. \nPanel Discussion and Screenings. \nPanelists: Sonali Gulati\, Fawzia Mirza \n‘Sum Total’ – What does an Indian lesbian do when her family puts pressure on her to get married? What does her matrimonial advertisement look like? Sum Total answers these questions through a short poetic film that addresses issues of identity\, self-representation\, and hetronormativity.* Sonali Gulati is an independent filmmaker\, a feminist\, a queer rights activist\, and an educator. She teaches film at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts in the department of Photography & Film. \n‘I know Her’ – Fawzia Mirza is a writer/creator/director who believes in the power of comedy & personal storytelling to tackle divisive topics and breakdown stereotypes. She was named one of ’10 Filmmakers to Watch’ by Independent Magazine\, and more. In this film\, Fawzia tells the story of the afterglow of a seemingly fated hookup where two women realize that perhaps they have a little too much in common.* \nSource \nhttps://www.sonalifilm.com/#/sum-total/ \nhttps://www.psfilmfest.org/2020-shortfest-archive/2020-shortfest-film-finder-archive/i-know-her \nRegister : https://www.eventbrite.com/e/inter-generational-dialogue-with-queer-south-asian-women-tickets-157668880867
