SUMMARY:Pride Month Special- Tasveer Reels: The Lonely Prince
DESCRIPTION:Pride Month Special- Tasveer Reels: The Lonely Prince\nThis Pride month\, join us for an exclusive screening of The Lonely Prince followed by a live Q&A session with the filmmakers Shivin and Sunny. \nDate: Friday\, June 10th \nTime: 5:00pm-6:30 pm PST \nInspired by the lack of Queer representation in traditional Indian settings\, Shivin and Sunny decided to go back to their roots and create a new tale with a queer leading character. The Lonely Prince is inspired by classic fairy tails\, but with one twist- its the Prince that needs saving this time. The film is built around this idea of self-acceptance\, which the Prince has struggled with his entire adult life. \nDirectors Shivin and Sunny grew up in a time where homosexuality was not accepted\, even in their household. Not having any mainstream representation of their struggles on-screen only made their fear of acceptance greater. That is why the two created this story in the form of a folk tale with a hope for it to be sent down from generation to generation. \nRegister NOW!

SUMMARY:Tasveer Author Meet with Vijay Seshadri
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun conversation with Vijay Seshadri on Dec 1\, at 5 PM PST (8 PM EST). We’ll also be talking all about his new collection of poetry That Was Now\, This Is Then. \nIn That Was Now\, This Is Then\, Vijay Seshadri’s fourth poetry collection and first since winning the 2014 Pulitzer Prize\, Seshadri affirms his place as one of America’s greatest living poets. An exquisite blend of ironic intelligence\, emotional frankness\, radical self-awareness\, and complex humor\, That Was Now\, This Is Then takes on the planar paradoxes of time and space\, destabilizing highly tuned lyrics and elegies with dizzying turns in poems of unrequitable longing\, of longing for longing\, of longing to be found\, of grief. In these poems\, Seshadri’s speaker becomes the subject\, the reader becomes the writer\, and the multiplying refracted narratives yield an “anguish so pure it almost / feels like joy.” \nVijay Seshadri is the author of 3 Sections\, winner of the Pulitzer Prize; The Long Meadow\, winner of the James Laughlin Award of the Academy of American Poets; and Wild Kingdom. He teaches at Sarah Lawrence College and lives in Brooklyn\, New York. \nWe’re hosting this event as part of our #GivingTuesday fundraising for Tasveer. We greatly appreciate your support and generosity! And we will continue to work on bringing more year-round virtual programs to you. Thank you for your support! \nRegister here for the event.

SUMMARY:Pride Month: Pride & Solidarity- All The Things We Don't Talk About!
DESCRIPTION:Pride & Solidarity- All The Things We Don’t Talk About!\nPride Month 2020\, much like its preceding months this year\, started off with a lot of reckoning\, uncertainties\, and also hope. With a lot of our internal conversations revolving around intersectionality\, anti-racism\, and gratitude for the huge part played by the Black LGBT community in the rights we have today\, we’d like to start and continue this dialogue at Tasveer\, in partnership with Trikone NW. \nThat is why we believe it is important for us to address some of the most burning questions first. Some of our discussion points include\, but are not limited to: \n\n\nPride is about why we are here and how we got here \n\n\n\n\nWhat are we celebrating\, what do we need to acknowledge\, and what more can we do to be better allies? \n\n\nHow are the Black and South Asian Queer communities related? \n\n\nHow do we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of Black Folx to the LGBT community? \n\n\nStarting an effective\, inclusive community dialogue with focus on the doubly oppressed. \n\n\nIntrospection\, call for action\, and next steps as a community towards inclusion\, anti-racism\, intersectionality\, and more. \n\n\nThis panel is brought to you by Tasveer in partnership with Trikone Northwest. Tasveer is a South Asian social justice non-profit arts organization\, with the mission to inspire social change through films\, arts\, and storytelling. Trikone Northwest is a vibrant\, diverse group of individuals creating a social\, supportive\, educational\, and political space for LGBTQ and differently-oriented South Asians and their family\, friends\, allies\, and community. \nNote: You will NOT receive a link for this event.
