Where the 21st festival begins.
The festival opens the way it should: a reception, the red carpet,
and a film that premiered at the Berlinale this year. Come dressed
for it, walk the carpet, and stay for the conversation after the
credits.

West Coast Premiere
A wedding in rural Punjab goes sideways when the groom's mother
is accidentally shot during the celebrations, and whispers about
the bride, whose three previous fiancés all died, begin to spread.
Darkly funny and genuinely eerie, and the first all-Pakistani
production ever to premiere at the Berlinale.
After the screening, a Q&A with the filmmakers, then dinner
and a party to start the week properly.

A mid-festival screening of one of the year's most loved debuts,
followed by an after-party.

To keep a costly vow to her village goddess, Mayilaa takes to the
road with her young daughter selling straw mats, though she has
never sold anything in her life. Funny, warm and quietly fierce.
Presented by Pa. Ranjith won the Audience Award at the Toulouse
Indian Film Festival.

A young girl, her grandfather's wooden armchair, and everything that

Breaking the Code
Dir. Ben Rekhi and Swetlana · USA · Washington State Premiere
A son turns the camera on his father, Kanwal Rekhi, who went from a
modest childhood in newly independent India to become the first
Indian American founder to take a venture-backed company public on
NASDAQ. Winner of the Audience Award at the Indian Film Festival
of Los Angeles.

Elephants in the Fog

At the edge of a forest where wild elephants roam, Pirati leads a
Kinnar community and plans to leave with the man she loves, until
one of her daughters goes missing. The first Nepali feature ever
selected at Cannes, where it won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize.
