Desi Queer Speaks!

Seattle Asian Arts Museum, Saturday, April 11th, 2pm-4pm

Date: Sunday, 12th April 2020
Time: 11:30am-1:30pm
Location: Seattle Asian Arts Museum, Education Room

Theme: The dynamics of exclusion of the queer experience in South Asian community spaces.

Aaina has a new annual program! Desi Queer Speaks! will be a space cultivated especially for the Pacific Northwest’s Desi queer community and allies. Desi Queer Speaks! will be an ongoing collaboration of Tasveer and Trikone NW.

We will begin the program with the sharing of our stories, which can be narrative, poetic, or reflective. We invite South Asian queer, trans, gender non-conforming, and all LGBTQIAP+ and queer-identified folx along with our allies to come share, listen, celebrate and discuss stories of our community. After sharing our stories, we will have a facilitated community discussion. This year’s discussion topic is the dynamics of exclusion of the queer experience in South Asian community spaces. The discussion will be facilitated by Tasveer’s co-founder Farah Nousheen (she/her) who identifies as a non-heteronormative queer South Asian Muslim woman and Trikone NW.

Please email Siddhi at siddhi@tasveer.org if you have any questions and/or would like to share your story. Please RSVP to confirm your spot on our list.

The first Desi Queer Speaks! will be facilitated by Tasveer co-founder Farah Nousheen (she/her) who identifies as a non-heteronormative queer South Asian Muslim woman, and TrikoneNW. If you have any questions about this program, please email us at siddhi@tasveer.org or farah@tasveer.org.
