TASVEER PRIVACY NOTICE

Last updated: 28 August, 2026

This notice explains what information Tasveer collects, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers:

  • Our website at tasveer.org and any other site of ours that links here
  • The Tasveer mobile app
  • Ticketing, events, newsletters and other ways you interact with us

We have tried to write this in plain language. A privacy notice nobody can read is not much use to anyone.

If you have questions, email us at info@tasveer.org.

THE SHORT VERSION

We do not sell your personal information. We never have, and we do not intend to.

We do not use your information for targeted advertising.

We do not process sensitive personal information as that term is defined under California law.

We do not buy information about you from third parties.

In the app, there are no accounts and no logins. We do not ask for your device location, your contacts or your photos.

Payments never touch our servers. All ticket, badge, membership and contribution transactions happen on our ticketing and payment partners’ platforms.

1. WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Information you give us

We collect what you choose to give us. Depending on how you interact with Tasveer, that may include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your mailing address
  • Your contact preferences
  • Anything you write to us, or submit through a form

You might give us this when you buy a ticket or pass, sign up for our newsletter, submit a film, apply to volunteer, contact us, become a member, support our work, or post to the Bulletin board in our app.

Please keep it accurate, and tell us if something changes.

Payment information

We do not store card numbers or payment credentials.

When you buy something from us, the transaction is handled by one of our payment and ticketing partners, and your payment data is stored with them under their own privacy policies:

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website or open our app, some technical information is collected automatically. It does not identify you by name. It includes:

Log and usage data. Your IP address, browser type and settings, device information, the pages or screens you open, the date and time, what you searched for, and error reports when something breaks.

Device data. Device model, operating system, application identifiers, browser type, internet service provider or mobile carrier, and system configuration.

Approximate location. Our website and our analytics tools derive a rough location, usually country or city level, from your IP address. This is not GPS and it does not tell us where you are standing. On the website, if you have enabled precise location in your browser, more detailed location may be available, and you can turn that off in your device settings.

We use this to keep the site and app working, to fix what is broken, and to understand which parts people actually use.

2. HOW WE USE IT

We use your information to:

  • Deliver and administer our services, screenings, festival and events
  • Sell and deliver tickets, passes and memberships
  • Respond when you contact us
  • Send you newsletters and updates, if you have asked for them
  • Review and publish Bulletin submissions
  • Understand how our website and app are used, so we can improve them
  • Measure whether our campaigns are reaching people
  • Keep our services secure and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Comply with the law
  • Protect someone’s safety in an emergency

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles or to deliver targeted advertising.

3. THE LEGAL BASES WE RELY ON

This section applies if you are in the EU, the UK, or Canada.

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we process personal information on one of these bases:

Consent. Where you have given us permission, for example by subscribing to our newsletter. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Legitimate interests. Where processing is reasonably necessary for our work and does not override your rights. This covers things like understanding how our services are used, diagnosing problems, preventing abuse, and telling people about our programming.

Legal obligations. Where we must comply with the law, cooperate with authorities, or defend our legal rights.

Vital interests. Where processing is necessary to protect someone’s safety.

If you are in Canada, we process your information with your express or implied consent, and in the limited circumstances where Canadian law permits processing without consent, such as fraud investigation or compliance with a court order.

4. WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We share personal information only in these situations.

Service providers. Companies that run parts of our operation on our behalf, under contract, and who are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. These include our ticketing and payment partners listed above, our email platform, and Google, which provides Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for our app.

Maps. Our website may use Google Maps Platform APIs. Our app links out to Apple Maps. When you follow those links, the relevant company’s privacy policy applies. Google’s is at https://policies.google.com/privacy and Apple’s at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Legal requirements. Where we are required by law, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect someone’s safety or our legal rights.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. THE TASVEER MOBILE APP

The app works differently from the website, so this section sets out exactly what happens there.

There are no accounts

The app has no login and no user accounts. You do not create a profile, and we do not hold one for you.

We do not ask for your location

The app does not request location permission and does not track where you are. When you tap a venue address, we hand you to Apple Maps, and from that point Apple’s privacy policy governs.

What we collect automatically

Firebase Analytics. We collect device model, operating system version, app version, a randomly generated app instance identifier, which screens you open, how long you spend in them, and an approximate location at country or region level that Google derives from your IP address. We use this to see which parts of the app are useful and which are not.

Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we receive a crash report containing device information and a technical log of what the app was doing at the time. We use these to fix bugs.

Google processes this data on our behalf. Google’s privacy policy is at https://policies.google.com/privacy and Firebase’s data handling is described at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

You can stop this collection entirely by deleting the app.

Tickets and passes

The app does not sell anything and does not process payments. When you tap to buy a ticket, badge or pass, your browser opens Eventive, a separate company running its own platform. Everything you enter there, including your name, email and payment details, goes to Eventive rather than to us. We never see your card information.

Push notifications

The app does not send push notifications and does not collect push tokens.

6. THE BULLETIN BOARD

The Bulletin in our app is a public noticeboard. Our Community Rules govern what may be posted there. This section covers the privacy side.

What you submit. When you submit a post, we collect your name, your contact details and the content of your post. We use this to publish the post, to moderate the board, and to contact you if we have a question.

What becomes public. Posts appear on the Bulletin as soon as you submit them. Anything inside the post itself becomes visible to everyone using the app, including any contact details you choose to put in it. Please do not include information you would not want a stranger to see, and do not post anyone else’s personal information without their permission.

Authorship. Each submission is linked to its author in our system. That link is how we handle reports and prevent repeat abuse. It is held on our side and is not displayed publicly.

Hiding posts. If you hide a post on your phone, that choice is stored on your device and is not sent to us.

Reports. When you report a post or mark it as spam, we receive the report and review it. Reports are not shown publicly.

Taking a post down. If you have posted and want it removed, email info@tasveer.org and we will take it down.

7. COOKIES AND TRACKING

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies such as pixels and web beacons. Most browsers accept cookies by default, and you can change that in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well if you do.

To opt out of interest-based advertising by third-party advertisers across the web, visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices/

Our mobile app does not use cookies.

8. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described here, unless the law requires us to keep it longer, for example for tax or accounting reasons.

In practice:

  • Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe
  • Ticketing and transaction records are kept as long as required for accounting and reporting
  • Bulletin submissions and the correspondence around them are kept while the post is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we have a record of what was published and why
  • Firebase analytics data is retained under Google’s default retention settings
  • Crash reports are kept while they remain useful for fixing the problem

When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymize it. If it sits in a backup archive where immediate deletion is not possible, we isolate it from further processing until deletion can happen.

9. HOW WE PROTECT IT

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold.

We should be honest, though: no system connected to the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that a determined attacker will never get through. Transmitting information to us is at your own risk, and we would encourage you to use our services on a secure connection.

10. CHILDREN AND MINORS

Our website and app are intended for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us at info@tasveer.org and we will delete it.

Some Tasveer programs, including our youth film workshops and screenings, involve participants under 18. Where we collect information from or about minors in those programs, we do so with parent or guardian consent, and we use it only to run the program.

11. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of these rights:

  • To ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy
  • To ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date
  • To ask us to delete your information
  • To ask us to restrict how we process it
  • To object to processing
  • To receive your information in a portable format
  • To withdraw consent where we relied on it

To use any of these rights, email info@tasveer.org

We will respond within the time the applicable law allows. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will only use what you send us for that verification.

Unsubscribing. Every marketing email we send has an unsubscribe link. You can also email us. We may still send you messages that are necessary to complete something you asked for, such as a ticket confirmation.

If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we are processing your information unlawfully, you can complain to your local data protection authority: https://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/bodies/authorities/index_en.htm

If you are in Switzerland, contact details for the authorities are at https://www.edoeb.admin.ch/edoeb/en/home.html

We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

If you are under 18, live in California, and have publicly posted content through our services, you may request its removal. Contact us and we will remove it from public display, though copies may remain in backups.

You may use an authorized agent, provided they can show they are authorized to act for you.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@tasveer.org

13. DO NOT TRACK

Most browsers and some mobile systems offer a Do Not Track setting. There is still no agreed standard for how organizations should respond to it, so at present we do not respond to DNT signals. If a standard is adopted, we will update this notice.

14. CHANGES TO THIS NOTICE

We update this notice when our practices change or the law requires it. The date at the top tells you when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will post a notice on our website and in the app, or contact you directly.
