AAINA: SOUTH ASIAN WOMEN’S FOCUS

Aaina, which in Hindi & Urdu means mirror, celebrates the artistic & activist work of South Asian women, trans* & gender non conforming folx through performance, visual arts, films & conversation aimed at highlighting issues critical to the empowerment of South Asia. This year’s festival includes visual and performance art, speakers, and conversations aimed at highlighting issues relevant to South Asians. The spotlight event of Aaina –Yoni Ki Baat is a South Asian adaptation of the Vagina Monologues.

Yoni Ki Baat is a collection of authentic, bold, vivid, tender, powerful, and poignant stories written and narrated by South Asian women, trans*, and gender non-conforming community members. The narratives highlight special challenges and opportunities relevant in this socio-cultural context. YKB acknowledges that sexuality and that gender are essential–and sometimes fluid–aspects of identity, experience, and expression. Learn more.
